Using Security Tape To Seal And Protect Containers

A common and effective method of sealing containers is by using security tape. Security tape acts as a deterrent to opening an item, leaving markings on the affixed surface and on the tape itself, marking the item as void and opened.

How is it used?

Security tape is applied on the seals of a container. It is fixed in a way that the item cannot be opened without removing the tape before hand. While security tape is relatively strong compared to standard types of tape, it is not designed to physically protect against forced opening, and can be removed quite easily.

Certain types of security tape also include serial numbers and colour coding. These help to identify items that may have been tampered with. Customisations like these add a higher level of protection to the item, providing more security than standard types of security tape.

Using GPS Tracking With Security Systems

It’s not uncommon for a security system to make use of GPS tracking to help ensure the security of an item. It can be a very valuable tool, especially when tracking the location of stolen goods or vehicles.

GPS (Global Positioning System) is used to track the location of something anywhere on the Earth, 24 hours a day, in all weather conditions. Because of these features, a GPS enabled security system is more suited to safeguarding items that have the potential of being moved to a different location. Examples of this include cars, bikes and expensive items like jewellery and watches.

GPS security systems are also useful for tracking the movement of an item but within a designated range. In some instances, an item may be moved around regularly, so the security system allows for this. But it may be undesirable for the item to exceed certain ranges, if this happens the security system will then trigger, alerting of the unwanted movement.

How Quality Casings Can Improve Security Cameras

Camera casings, otherwise known as outdoor camera housings enable a security camera to function in weather that standard security cameras can’t stand up to. Heavy rainfall and storms can often damage normal cameras, or leave them temporarily inoperable, which can leave a security system with a weakness that can be exploited by intruders.

Camera casings can be fitted to a wide range of security cameras. They improve not only their functionality in adverse weather conditions but also increase their durability overall. There are many different casings and housings available, but it is important to check the compatibility of the case with an existing camera before purchasing.

Some cameras come with outdoor housings pre-installed, although usually for an increased price over a standard camera. This may be a more cost-effective method for those who are installing a new security system and is worth considering beforehand.

Anti-Climb Security Measures For Garden Walls

A common place that intruders gain access to a home is over a wall or fence. While it’s difficult to stop intruders from climbing a garden wall or fence, especially if they come prepared, a strong deterrence is the addition of anti-climb security measures.

Anti-climb measures can take many forms. From defensive shrubs and trees placed next to a wall, to extended battens attached to the top of a fence. But with so many options, choosing the right one can be tricky.

The key is choosing the right security measure that will suit your wall or fence specifically. This means analysing where potential break-ins could occur and choosing a security feature that will work well with the other features near by. For example, if you already have a strong fence, then extending it will be much more secure. However if that fence is quite weak in its construction, then a completely new fence will be a better option.

Reinforcing The Patio Door, How And Why It’s Important

Many criminals gain entry through the patio door, so it makes sense to re-enforce the security in this area of the home. This can easily be done with the use of a multi-locking system. A multi-locking system allows a door to be locked at multiple points into the door frame, making it a much stronger seal than that of a standard lock.

However, not all patio doors can be fitted with a locking system like this. If this is the case, it’s recommended that extra locks are fitted. These are fitted on the bottom fixed frame pushing through to the sliding frame in the centre and on the side frame at the opening point no lower than a third of the way from the top of the door. Most such locks are push to lock and key to open and are therefore easy to use. Make sure there is enough frame to fit them on if drilling is required. If in doubt, consult the installer or manufacturer.
