What To Do In The Aftermath of a Break-In

Unfortunately break-ins do happen, a one off event that has a knock-on effect over your business or personal life.

Its important to realise just how much of an effect an event like this does have over your life. It may be the last thing you want to think about, but taking the time to slow down and assess just what happened can save you from a lot of stress and racing thoughts in the future.

When you’ve gotten your head together it’s important to assess the physical damage to your property or business. Making sure you know exactly what happened will allow you to build on the failings of your old security system. Assessing the damage in detail will allow you to efficiently improve and increase the strength of your security system in a way that you know improves the overall security of your property.

The Disadvantages Of Using Fake Cameras

In the last post we looked at the advantages of using fake cameras, but are there any disadvantages to this security strategy?

Obviously the first glaring disadvantage is that fake cameras provide no system of visual awareness like real cameras do. They do not make recordings of the environment and as such can’t be used to refer to when assessing the surrounding area, in real time or when referring to a recording.

Fake cameras provide a false sense of security

While fake cameras are a comparatively cheap deterrent against criminals, instilling a sense of defence against them. They also instil a false sense of security in the owners. It can be easy to look up at your own fake security system each day and to rest easy in the notion that they protect your premises, but they do not.

This is a problem that can run deeper than you might expect. A false sense of security will allow you to pay less attention than you otherwise would on your security. Attention that should really not be misplaced.

The Advantages Of Using Fake Cameras

It’s impossible for a criminal to tell if a security camera is real or not, so why bother installing real ones?

It may be risky, but using fake cameras saves money and still acts as a deterrent against criminals and vandals.

Obviously you don’t have the protection of a visual recording and real time surveillance. But you also don’t to stay up all night watching the cameras, or pay a security guard to do the job, simply put the fake cameras up and you have 24/7 protection with no running costs.

Saving money on cameras will allow you put the extra funds into the critical, final defences of the security infrastructure. This can be an effective strategy. The criminals who are deterred by the cameras will not approach the property, but the criminals who actually intend to rob the building will have to contend with the increased protection of the critical security systems.

Night Time Security

If you are securing a premises you will want it kept secure primarily at night time. Most criminals carry out theft and vandalism under the cover of the night. To do  this there are many night applicable security tools available.

Night vision cameras are a great choice. With the night vision feature these cameras a adapted to see 24/7. There are many variations in the quality of the night vision, with visibility ranges increasing along side the cost and quality of the camera.

Another effective security measure is the use of motion activated floodlights. Floodlights that activate when intruders enter a premises are great for scaring off both trespassers and unwanted wildlife in the dead of night.

Employing a security guard for night duty is a good choice. A human being has the best sensory equipment money can buy. A security guard will also be able to immediately alert the police of any criminal activity. Potentially saving you from theft or criminal damage.

High Security Master Locking Systems

Master key systems give you security and convenience, and it can give one persons access to all of the rooms in a workplace, but of course this should only be given to security staff and management personnel.

A high security master locking system can include an access control system for increased protection, and it can save lives in the event of an emergency when access is needed fast. You’ll often see the use of these systems in schools, nursing homes and student accommodations, and it’s a must have system for many businesses.

Master locking is can be frowned upon, but that’s only if the key does make it in the the hands of the ‘wrong individual’. This is why it should be kept safe at all times, with a trusted member of staff, perhaps just the business owner.
